Welcome to Adulthood.

I turn 21 today. It's like any other birthday, several people calling in around the time the clock strikes 12. Yet, there is one significant difference. It's the one birthday when mum won't make avial for me. It's the one birthday where I don't have "plans" - everybody i love is far away, in another city. Wait a minute, I'm not being the crib machine yet again. I have learnt far more in these two hours than I have from any other birthday. Like they say, distance truly, makes the heart grow fonder.

On a tangential thought, it's ironic, for I have waited for this day since what seems like forever. Being the baby of the bunch was never really much fun. So, with immense pleasure i announce my arrival into Adulthood. I'll end with a somber warning a friend gave me, "From here on, you would wish the years came by in negative..." I'll ponder on that in 2006...

Aw, welcome to Adulthood; it's is rather anti-climactic, isn't it? :) Your friend is right about the years, sadly. I went thru an identity crisis on my 21st bday, so let me give you a little heartfelt and well-considered advice:

Don't let the bad stuff bug you more than it absolutely has to, and that's really not much. Give it a few hours and then move on. Unless it's something mean someone said. Give that an hour at the absolute most.

Live in the moment. The moments are what make up life. Grab onto the happy ones and wring every last second of joy out of them. This sounds easy. It's not, unless you keep it in your head to do so. Happy moments are what make life worth living. Simple things like the soft fur of a cat or the sun on your face are the reality, not how much more money than you someone else has; don't waste time on that stuff.

Have fun whenever possible. :) Laugh when you feel like it. Smile a lot. You truly are as young as you feel. The older you get, the more this makes sense, if you keep your youthful exuberance.

Floss. Don't brush too hard, and use a soft toothbrush. Don't sleep in your makeup. Wear sunscreen. Drink a lot of water. Your skin will thank you for it.

So will your teeth.

And last, the perceptions we have of other people or how we think things are are not always how they really are. I guarantee you someone out there thinks your life is 180 degrees from what it really is. We all touch people, we all make a difference, we all mean something.

Welcome to "Adulthood"; Happy Birthday. I hope you live a long, wonderful, joy-filled life. :)
